The Cash App $750 Reward Scam I Almost Fell For

One scam I personally experienced online was the popular “$750 Cash App Reward” scam that appears on social media ads and TikTok comments. The scam claimed that I could instantly receive $750 on Cash App just by completing “simple tasks.” The real purpose of this hoax was to gather people’s personal information and trick them into signing up for unsafe third-party offers that make money for the scammers. When I clicked the link out of curiosity, the website looked professional and even used Cash App’s colors and logo, which made it seem real at first. However, the process quickly turned suspicious. The site asked for my email, name, phone number, and even login information to “verify my account.” Then it required me to complete “reward steps,” which were really sign-ups for subscriptions, free trials that charged later, and downloads meant to collect data from my device. None of it actually led to receiving any money—people were being manipulated into giving away personal data or signing up for hidden charges.
Looking back, there were several signs that could have helped me identify it as a scam right away. The biggest red flag was that the link did not come from Cash App’s official website or social media accounts. The grammar on the site was also inconsistent, and it made unrealistic promises like “Guaranteed $750 today.” Another clue was the way the site rushed users by saying “Hurry, only 5 rewards left!”, a common tactic used to pressure people. If someone sees a similar offer, they should always check the official company website, read reviews, and avoid giving away personal information. Scams like this rely on making something look fast, easy, and too good to be true, because it usually is.

Friend: “Wow, I’ve seen those Cash App reward posts too. I always thought they looked sketchy but didn’t know exactly how the scam worked. Good thing you didn’t put in your info!”
My Reply: Thanks for reading! Yeah, the way they make the page look official really tricks people. I didn’t realize how much personal information they try to collect until I clicked through it. Now I’m way more careful about checking if something is from a real company.
Family Member: “I’m glad you wrote about this. A lot of people in our family use Cash App, and I could definitely see someone falling for this scam. Your explanation makes it really easy to understand.”
My Reply: I appreciate you checking it out! I agree, these scams target people who use apps like Cash App because they know it’s popular. Hopefully this helps someone avoid giving out their information to the wrong website.
Classmate: “This was super detailed. I didn’t even know scammers made fake websites that look almost identical to the real thing. It’s crazy how convincing they can be.”
My reply: Thanks! I was surprised too. They copy the colors, buttons, and even the logo to make you trust the site. That’s why checking the official URL and looking for small differences is really important.
Coworker: “I almost fell for something similar but it was a fake Amazon delivery message. Same thing, they wanted my info. These scams are getting more serious every year.”
My Reply: For real, these scams are everywhere now. They all use the same tactic: acting like a real company to get personal info. It’s good that you caught it too. Being aware of the signs definitely helps all of us stay safer.
